The jigsaw puzzle has been reinvented to help lower cholesterol, blood pressure and weight.  U.S. Patent 9114313 was issued on August 25, 2015.   The inventor, a Registered Dietitian, has reinvented the jigsaw puzzle to help people learn about the right food and exercise choices to lower their cholesterol, blood pressure and weight. “I wanted to create a sort of ‘health coach in a box’ so I constructed the idea of a multilevel, competitive jigsaw puzzle game based on a virtual man named ‘Charles’ ”, says Amy Hathaway, the inventor. “The object of the game is to lower Charles’ biometrics.  The player who knows the most about diet and exercise choices, wins the game.”

The jigsaw puzzle is uniquely designed with holes punched in the backboard enabling   the jigsaw puzzle to be played as a game with distinct scores for each biometric.  The game basically squeezes down a customized 30-day diet plan, into a 30-minute game-simulation. The jigsaw puzzle format is enjoyable for all ages and can be played solitaire or up to 4 players. The game is currently in use within medical center classrooms for heart patients, corporate wellness programs for employees and by the general public. The game design is also targeted at child obesity and has been played “tournament style” in public school classrooms. Diabetes and Spanish versions of the game are in development as well as versions based on foods from different regions and countries.  Cost is $24 each.
