•      1 Technical Data Sheet

Step 2:

Step 2

Step 3:

Roll the dice to determine who goes first

Step 4:    Each player takes a turn filling in their own Charles puzzle board with the puzzle pieces.

Step 4

Step 5

There are four puzzle pieces for each puzzle coordinate location on the Charles puzzle board.  Shown below are four heart shaped puzzle pieces that go into the heart location on the Charles puzzle board.   Each piece represents a food, beverage, or exercise.  In this example, the heart represents exercise choices.   Each player must choose one puzzle piece for each coordinate in order to fill up his Charles puzzle board.

Players do not have to choose the same shapes in the same order.

Example:  Player 1 chooses the (tennis); Player 2 chooses the   (salmon) and so on.

Each of the 4 choices is like a visual multiple choice test.  One will be the best choice.  The others will be progressively worse.

Step 5:    After each player places their 20 puzzle pieces in the game board, players turn the board over to reveal their scores. They add up their scores for each color.   The lowest score wins.  Now comes the eye opening part.

Turn the page over from the

Front side                         to the                       Back side

Step 6:  Players can compare their scores on the index.   Green is for weight.  Yellow for cholesterol.  Red is for blood pressure.   Compare your score on the index to see how much you lowered Charles weight, cholesterol and blood pressure and see who is the smartest when it comes to making Charles healthier.  Winner is the Wellness Champion!

Quick Start Guide

ChoicerSize

The Charles Challenge was invented by a registered dietitian. Even though the game’s data analysis and calculations were complex, the game was designed to be easy and simple enough for a 10 year old to teach an adult how to play the game within just a few moments.

Besides for use at home with family and friends, the game was also designed for employer onsite wellness challenges with the intent to control insurance claims costs for both the employer and the insurance companies. It has also been used by educational institutions, such as public schools for children.

The game is effective because it leverages the spirit of competition that makes it fun for people learn how to become more aware of the correct choices they should make to improve their score.

The Charles Challenge is one tool that can be used to fight the growing epidemic of childhood obesity and chronic disease in the United States. Other medical nutrition therapy versions of the game are planned for future release, including: diabetes, heart disease, renal disease, and even sports nutrition.
Additionally, customized game sets could include specific menus, such as school cafeteria menus or employee cafeteria menus or certain ethnic food choices.

ChoicerSize is committed to developing health education tools to support health improvement for all people from ages 8 to 108.

Press Release

New patented jigsaw puzzle helps lower cholesterol, blood pressure and weight

U.S. Patent 9114313 issued

Orange County, CA.   The title of this article doesn’t mean that you need to eat a jigsaw puzzle to lower your cholesterol. Instead, the inventor, a Registered Dietitian, has reinvented the jigsaw puzzle to help people learn about the right food and exercise choices to lower their cholesterol, blood pressure and weight. “I wanted to create a sort of ‘health coach in a box’ so I constructed the idea of a multilevel, competitive jigsaw puzzle game based on a virtual man named ‘Charles’ ”, says Amy Hathaway, the inventor. “The object of the game is to lower Charles’ biometrics.  The player who knows the most about diet and exercise choices, wins the game.”

The jigsaw puzzle is uniquely designed with holes punched in the backboard enabling   the jigsaw puzzle to be played as a game with distinct scores for each biometric.  The game basically squeezes down a customized 30-day diet plan, into a 30-minute game-simulation. The jigsaw puzzle format is enjoyable for all ages and can be played solitaire or up to 4 players. The game is currently in use within medical center classrooms for heart patients, corporate wellness programs for employees and by the general public. The game design is also targeted at child obesity and has been played “tournament style” in public school classrooms. Diabetes and Spanish versions of the game are in development as well as versions based on foods from different regions and countries.
